Collaborative group discussions around your reading
Use this public guide to join book clubs, create new groups, share insights, and moderate conversations within Active Reading.
Before you begin
- Your account is verified and you are logged in.
- The book you want to discuss is available to the group.
- You have an invite link/code or permission to create a new group.
Joining an existing group
- Open the Groups area from the home screen or sidebar.
- Select “Enter code” and paste the invite sent by a moderator.
- Confirm — the live feed with threads and tasks unlocks right away.
- Enable push/email alerts on first entry so you never miss replies.
Invite links expire after 72 hours. Ask the owner for a new link if yours no longer works.
Creating your own group
- Inside Groups tap “Create group”.
- Name the group, define the reading goal, and attach book files or references.
- Configure privacy (open/closed), approvals, and who can start topics.
- Save — you’ll receive a shareable link plus QR / Telegram shortcuts.
Tip: fill the Welcome block with quick rules and the session schedule so newcomers feel oriented from day one.
Running discussions
Start a thread
- Go to the Discussions tab inside your group.
- Hit “New topic” and optionally attach it to a specific chapter.
- Write the prompt, insert a quote via “Insert excerpt”, add context.
- Publish — subscribers are notified instantly.
Comment & react
- Use the reply box; attach the current passage straight from the reader.
- @mention participants to bring them into the conversation.
- Drop emoji reactions for lightweight acknowledgements.
- Moderators can pin standout replies to the top.
Clicking any quote jumps into the reader at the exact passage, keeping context intact.
Editing and moderation
- Edit: hover/tap a post → “Edit”. Everyone sees the “Updated” flag.
- Delete: authors can remove their own posts; moderators can remove any. A placeholder remains to preserve thread flow.
- Roles: assign reader/moderator/owner roles under “Participants” and restrict who can start new topics.
- Freeze: lock the thread after the chapter discussion wraps up.
